Yesterday was Red Nose Day here in the UK, and as ever i'm amazed how much the Brits love and support their charities. I actually wrote an essay on this when I was studying English in Gothenburg, but I don't think I fully appreciated the sheer extent of it back then. It's true that Sweden has a better social safety, but at the same time, lacks some of the togetherness that comes with everyone working together for a common cause.
Vera and all the other children had been asked to wear red and all the staff were dressed up. They baked flapjacks and all parents donated a pound in exchange for a taste. They also had their faces painted, evidence below!
At my work, we were also wearing red, or fancy dress, ate and donated money for charity. We also took a group photo of everyone in red. The company raised over £1000 on the day. There was a televised "telethon" on BBC all night, which so far has raised over 75 million pounds. Quite astonishing.
