27th - last day

The 27th saw the arrival of Tom, Ger and the girls who came down from Dublin. We met them in town for lunch then went back to the house where Emily, Lucy and Julie demolished their Chriskindle presents in about 60 seconds! All the family popped in again and it is so lovely to have everyone around. It was also so lovely to meet the youngest family member, cousin Lily Rose! Lily's brother, Luke 2,5 years old, is the sweetest little boy. Kissed and cuddled Vera at every opportunity. Here he is with his dad, uncle Joe.

St Stephen's Day

..as Boxing Day, or Annandag Jul, is called in Ireland, was another busy day! We attempted to go to the Landmark for a meal, a belated birthday celebration for Mar, together with Enda and his girls, Laura and Rachel. The Landmark, however, was closed so we had to turn straight back home again! Probably a good thing as we managed to make a bit of a dent in Olivia's well stocked fridge!

We then went back into town to meet some friends in Murtaghs Bar in Carrick Joe was kind enough to drive so that I could have a longed for Guinness!

Here are some photos of cousins, uncle Enda and friends

Vera's pretty Christmas Dress

Vera got an extra special present from her Nana -  a apretty red Christmas dress and some cute santa slippers! We had brought the big and santa hat from England:

Christmas Day - evening

As is traditional on Christmas Day in the evening, the whole family comes over to Joe & Olivia's house for a drink and a chat and this year too, all the children opened their Chriskindle present. At the same time, we all watch the Christmas specials on all the soaps, so it gets quite intense at times!
Here is Jackie opening her present

Christmas Dinner

This year for Christmas Dinner we went to Ruth, Tony and Kym's. They had prepared a wonderful meal and we had a great time!

Christmas Day morning

Vera slept badly the night between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, no not excitement, but a cold. She had a bit of a temperature and was very snotty. We stayed at home in the morning when the others went to mass and opened Vera's first Christmas presents

Family!

One of the best things, or probably the best, is that Mark's wonderful family all live so close together and that we get to see so much of them!

Christmas Eve

After a fairly early start and breakfast, Mark, Vera and I went to Tesco's to buy more nappies, wipes, food etc. I was mentally prepared for a fight, but it was so quiet! One benefit of getting up early. We met Joe and Olivia at the Landmark Hotel for coffee and on the way back to Kilmore, we called in at Pat's in Jamestown

Christmas in Ireland - Arriving!

As you know we spent Vera's first Christmas in Ireland, meeting all the family. We flew out on Friday 23rd December from Birmingham to Dublin, with Aer Lingus. It was the smoothest, easiest trip ever. The drive up was quick (1 hr 45 mins) and you wouldn't have known it was Christmas at Birmingham Airport. So quite and no queues anywhere! Brilliant! Also very civilised to fly with a normal airline as opposed to Ryanair, dedicated seats and we got to board before everyone else as we had Vera. We didnt bring a pram or anything and I used my BabyBjorn carrier which was great, although she's getting heavy! Vera loves it though, faces forward as there is so much to look at!
We arrived in Dublin and picked up our hire car, all in the same building now so quick! Installed the car seat with some difficulty and programmed the sat nav and away we go. The drive down took about 2 hrs and hardly any traffic compared to the UK. It was so lovely to arrive and for Vera to meet her Nana and grandad Joe
